Frequently Asked Questions About Permanent Cosmetics

FAQs

What are permanent cosmetics?
Permanent cosmetics are an advanced form of cosmetic tattooing. The most popular procedures are perfectly designed eyebrows, eyeliners and lips. The procedures use pharmaceutical grade pigments which are applied to the dermal layer of the skin. This results in a wonderful shadow of colour that looks like perfectly applied make-up, but with the added benefit of being smudge proof.

Who has permanent cosmetics?
Anybody who wants their more defined look to remain in place and not wear off or smudge has permanent cosmetics. Clients include: people with sparse or no eyebrows due to over plucking or illness; people with allergies to conventional make-up; sports enthusiasts and holiday makers who do not want their make-up to wear off; those who are unable to apply their own make-up; men and women who want to correct facial asymmetries.

Is the procedure safe?
A code of practice is followed that ensures a safe treatment. Hypoallergenic pigments that meet European medical standards are used and an allergy test is carried out before each procedure. The treatment is performed with state-of-the-art equipment and the highest quality, single-use, sterile needles are used.

How is the procedure carried out?
At least 24 hours before the procedure a sensitivity patch test is carried out to ensure you are not allergic to the pigments or anaesthetics.

Before the procedure, a numbing cream is applied to the treatment area and as this activates we will discuss the results you wish to achieve and the colours that best suit you will be identified. A conventional make-up pencil is then used to draw the desired shape, so you can approve the enhancement before the treatment begins. As the treatment progresses, you are shown the results that are being achieved to ensure you remain happy and relaxed throughout the procedure.

At the end of the treatment you will be given after care instructions to follow. A top-up treatment is scheduled for 4-6 weeks later to ensure a perfect finish. This is included in the initial cost.

How long will it last?
Permanent cosmetics are permanent, but the colour will fade within 1-5 years depending on factors such as age, exposure to UV, skin type and colour choice. Clients who wish to maintain the colour intensity of their procedure return every 12-18 months for a colour boost. If the colour boost is performed within this time, it is charged at 50% of the full initial treatment cost.

Does it hurt?
Everybody is different so this varies from person to person. Some people feel only a scratching or tickling sensation, while others find the procedure more uncomfortable. Numbing creams are used to minimise discomfort.

What will I look like after the procedure?
Immediately after the procedure and for the first few days, the treated area will look 30-50% darker than the desired result and you may experience mild redness and swelling. As the treated area heals and the skin exfoliates, the look will soften and lighten. The result is a natural looking enhancement.

Is it expensive?
The initial treatment costs from £395 but if you maintain the appearance of your enhancement with a colour boost every 12-18 months, then this is charged at 50% of the full initial treatment price. You can, therefore, maintain your beautifully defined and smudge-proof brows, eyes and lips from only £11 a month!

Can I wear conventional make-up over my permanent cosmetics?
Permanent cosmetics are designed to enhance and define your natural features, but once the treatment area has healed, you can always add conventional make-up to achieve a different look.
